The SCPC seal of accreditation is an important distinction among Chest Pain Centers because it means the center and its staff are totally prepared to care for patients with heart attack symptoms. Successful treatment of heart attacks is time dependent and must be initiated rapidly. When a patient arrives at CJW with a suspected heart attack, they are within quick reach of the specialized staff and equipment needed to diagnose and treat emergency heart conditions. We are acutely prepared for heart emergencies-- preparation that saves lives and quality of life.

    • The Most Advanced Cardiac Surgery Suite in Central Virginia

    Our four cardiac operating rooms feature technology unavailable elsewhere in the area. Real-time patient data and images are displayed on 52-inch, high-definition plasma screens that also allow for videoconferencing. This means that during an operation, the surgeon never has to leave the patient’s side to confer with another physician who may be in another part of the hospital, or even in another part of the world.

    The American Heart Association encourages individuals to "Act in Time" by immediately calling 911, at the onset of heart attack symptoms. Although some heart attacks occur suddenly and are intense, most occur slowly with mild pain and discomfort.

    Between 20% and 60% of Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) patients have some symptoms up to four weeks before the attack - symptoms they may ignore or attribute to other causes, such as indigestion.
